Ananya Birla comes from one of India’s most prominent business families. She is the eldest daughter of Kumar Mangalam Birla, who heads the Aditya Birla Group.
Singer Ananya Birla, the eldest daughter of Kumar Mangalam Birla, head of the Aditya Birla Group, announced on Monday that she is quitting music. Ananya shared the news on her Instagram account, leaving her fans shocked.
“This has been the toughest decision,” Ananya began her post, explaining why she’s decided to quit singing. “Balancing both the businesses I run and my music career has become nearly impossible, taking a toll on me in ways I can’t express. Thank you for all the love and support for my music over the years. I hope we can appreciate English music made by Indian artists, as there is so much talent in our country. Thank you again. It’s time for me to focus all my energies on the business world.”
Singer Armaan was quick to react to Ananya’s post, expressing his sadness: “So sad to hear that, Ananya, but you keep doing you! More power to all your dreams and future endeavors.” Actor Bobby Deol also commented, saying, “Wishing you the best in whatever you do in your life. God bless you.”
Ananya Birla made her singing debut with the single ‘Livin’ The Life’ in 2016. She gained international recognition when her English single achieved platinum status, making her the first Indian artist to do so. Additionally, her song was featured on the American national top 40 pop radio show Sirius XM Hits. In 2022, she made her OTT debut in the song ‘Inaam’ from the web series Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness, starring actor Ajay Devgn.
Ananya is the founder and CEO of Svatantra Microfinance, a company providing financial services to low-income households and women entrepreneurs in rural India. Additionally, she is the founder of CuroCarte, a luxury e-commerce platform selling handmade and artisanal products from around the world.
She draws immense inspiration from the late music sensation Kurt Cobain. “One of the reasons I’ve always looked up to him is because he never got too technical with his music; he sang from his heart,” Ananya shared in an exclusive interview. “If you watch his live performances, you’ll notice that a few notes might not be technically correct – sometimes they would be out of scale and sometimes, they would sound off to the ears – but that didn’t matter because people connected with him.”
