Polling is currently underway in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, located in Pune district. The election is witnessing a high-stakes political battle between Supriya Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar, and Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Amidst this, a video from a polling booth at Late Bandoji Khandoji Chavan School in Pune’s Dhayari has gone viral on social media. In the video, an elderly man can be seen expressing his decision to boycott the election because he couldn’t find the “lotus” symbol on the electronic voting machine (EVM).
The elderly man expressed his disappointment, saying, “There is no lotus symbol on the EVM. The Bharatiya Janata Party should have fielded their candidate.”
For those who might not be aware, the BJP is in an alliance with Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP. Sunetra Pawar, contesting from the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, is the alliance candidate, and her election symbol is the ‘clock’.
In contrast, Sharad Pawar’s NCP has formed an alliance with the Congress and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. Supriya Sule, a three-time MP, is seeking her fourth term as their candidate. Her election symbol is the ‘man blowing a trumpet’.
The Baramati Lok Sabha constituency has a total of 2,561 polling stations and 2.372 million registered voters.
