The family of Noor Malabika Das, who was found dead in her Mumbai apartment, claims that the actor was battling depression and was dissatisfied with her career in the film industry
Days after Kajol’s The Trial co-star Noor Malabika Das was found dead in her Mumbai apartment, her family revealed that she had been struggling with depression and was dissatisfied with her career in the film industry. Originally from Karimganj town in Assam, near the Bangladesh border, Noor had moved to Mumbai with hopes of pursuing an acting career.
Speaking to The Times of India from Karimganj, the actor’s paternal aunt, Arati Das, shared that Noor went to Mumbai with ‘big hopes’ to pursue acting and was fighting hard to achieve her goals. However, she was ‘unsatisfied’ with her achievements, which Arati believes might have driven her to take the extreme step.
The police discovered Noor’s decomposed body in her Lokhandwala apartment after neighbors reported a foul smell to the Oshiwara police station, raising suspicions of suicide. According to a report in Mid Day, despite attempts to contact her family, no one responded, prompting the police, with assistance from the Mamdani Health and Education Trust NGO, to perform her last rites on Sunday.

Before pursuing acting, Noor worked as an air hostess. She appeared in various projects such as Walkaman, Siskiyaan, Teekhi Chatni, Jaghanya Upaya, Charamsukh, Dekhi Andekhi, and Backroad Hustle, among others. Her most recent role was in Kajol and Jisshu Sengupta’s The Trial.
Following Noor’s death, the All India Cine Workers Association has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, requesting an investigation into her death. The letter stated, “Her untimely demise is a poignant reminder of the alarming trend of suicides within the Indian film fraternity. The recurrence of such tragic incidents in the Bollywood industry necessitates serious introspection and a thorough investigation into the underlying causes. It is crucial to explore all potential factors, including the possibility of foul play, to ensure the truth is uncovered and justice is served.”
