Mithun Chakraborty to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the actor, stating that his impressive cinematic journey serves as an inspiration for generations.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced today that actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

In a post on X, the minister announced that Mithun Chakraborty will receive the award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8. He praised the actor, highlighting that his extraordinary cinematic journey inspires generations.

“Mithun Da’s incredible cinematic journey continues to inspire generations! Proud to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has chosen the legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji, for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema. The award will be presented at the 70th National Film Awards on October 8, 2024,” he posted on X.

Mithun Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut in 1976 with Mrinal Sen’s Mrigayaa, earning the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance. He rose to fame with his iconic role in the 1982 hit Disco Dancer, a massive box-office success. He also received acclaim for his performance in the 1990 film Agneepath and frequently appears as a judge on reality shows.

He is also well-known for films like Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki and Commando.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor in Indian cinema, presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals at the National Film Awards ceremony.

Mithun Chakraborty will be the 54th recipient of the award, which was established in 1969 to honor Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, who directed India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913.

So far, 53 individuals have received the award, including legends like Prithviraj Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, BR Chopra, and Yash Chopra. Waheeda Rehman was honored with the award in 2021.
