Yesterday, Suhani Bhatnagar, who portrayed young Babita Phogat in the movie ‘Dangal’, passed away in Delhi. Her family shared today that she had Dermatomyositis, a rare illness causing skin rashes and muscle weakness. She was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences on February 7 and passed away on February 16 due to complications. Her family mentioned that symptoms appeared two months ago, but the disease was diagnosed only ten days before her demise. “About two months ago, she got a red spot on her hands. We consulted various hospitals, but the diagnosis couldn’t be made,” said Suhani’s mother, Puja Bhatnagar.

Suhani’s father, Sumit Bhatnagar, mentioned that her health continued to decline after being admitted to AIIMS. Eventually, she suffered lung damage from an infection and fluid buildup, despite being put on a ventilator. He noted that only a handful of people worldwide have been diagnosed with the disease.

Dermatomyositis, characterized by muscle weakness and a specific skin rash, is a rare inflammatory condition that can also impact other parts of the body such as the lungs, heart, and digestive system.

Suhani Bhatnagar, a resident of Faridabad, was cremated at the Ajronda cremation ground. In the 2016 film ‘Dangal’, she played the role of young Babita alongside Zaira Wasim as young Geeta. The older versions of these characters were portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, respectively, with Aamir Khan starring as their father, Mahavir Phogat.
