Sharmin Segal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, faces heavy criticism for her performance in the filmmaker’s Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

Actress Richa Chadha has criticized trolls for targeting Sharmin Segal, warning that the use of “out-of-context interview clips” can impact her Heeramandi co-star’s mental health.

On Thursday, Richa shared on her Instagram stories that she has been deleting all negative comments about Sharmin from her social media. She also encouraged people to offer constructive criticism instead.

“For the past month, whenever I’ve been vigilant enough, I’ve been deleting negative comments about my co-star from my social media. Constructive criticism is welcome, but this level of visceral hate?” she wrote.

The actress also stated that while she is fine with open criticism of an actor’s performance, she absolutely detests trolling that uses “out-of-context interview clips.”

Actress Richa Chadha has strongly criticized trolls targeting Sharmin Segal, warning that the heavy trolling with “out-of-context interview clips” can negatively impact the mental health of her Heeramandi co-star.

On Thursday, Richa shared on her Instagram stories that she has been actively deleting all negative comments about Sharmin from her social media. She urged people to offer constructive criticism instead.

“For the past month, whenever I’ve been vigilant, I’ve been deleting negative comments about my co-star from my social media. Constructive criticism is fine, but this level of visceral hate?” she wrote.

Richa also expressed her disdain for trolling with “out-of-context interview clips,” stating that while open criticism of an actor’s performance is acceptable, trolling with misleading content is not.

“It’s one thing to dislike someone’s performance, that’s your right. But to troll so heavily? Please? Using out-of-context interview clips (from a legitimate roast)? Why?” she wrote.

She urged people to be kind and avoid turning Sharmin into “human clickbait.”

“I know it’s tempting to jump on a trend, but making another person clickbait? We can do better than that. Be kind. Please. It can affect someone’s mental health. A big election just happened, there’s a heatwave, there’s so much going on in the world! Please move on?” she concluded.

Sharmin, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, portrays Alamzeb in the Netflix period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Following the series’ release, she has faced heavy trolling, with many dubbing her a nepo kid, prompting her to disable the comments section on Instagram.

Marking Bhansali’s OTT debut, Heeramandi explores the lives of courtesans in Lahore’s oldest red-light district, focusing on themes of love, passion, freedom, and betrayal. The series, set in British-ruled India, also stars Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, and has been renewed for a second season.
