Mumbai: Former Sena UBT corporator gunned down on live social media; assailant commits suicide.

Abhishek and Mauris, both from Borivali, recently made up and were live on Facebook together.

Abhishek Ghosalkar, 41, a former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator and the son of the party’s former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, was fatally shot in Borivali, Mumbai, on Thursday evening during a live social media session. His alleged assailant, Mauris Noronha, 49, a local businessman, later took his own life.

Abhishek and Mauris, who had recently reconciled, were together on a Facebook live stream when the tragic incident occurred.

This incident follows another shooting in Thane a week prior, where Ganpat Gaikwad, a BJP MLA, shot at Mahesh Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena member, inside a police station.

Abhishek was rushed to Karuna Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Both Abhishek and Mauris have passed away.

A senior IPS officer, speaking anonymously, stated that Abhishek’s body will undergo postmortem at Sir JJ Hospital, while Mauris’ body will be taken to Cooper Hospital. Further details will be provided later.

During the Facebook live stream where the incident unfolded, the video quickly went viral. Reports suggest that a total of five bullets were fired at Abhishek, striking him in various parts of his body, including under his ribs and in his back.

During the four-minute and 26-second live video session, the two individuals appeared relaxed and engaged in conversation, assuring their audience that they had settled all previous disagreements and were on good terms.

“Today, we’ve decided to join forces and stand united. We’ve resolved to distribute saris and rations together,” Mauris stated during the session.

“It’s a positive step to collaborate for the community’s welfare… We’re providing saris to 300 working and needy women. Together, we’ll serve the people of Kandarpada. This resolution marks the beginning of our friendship and cooperation in this new year,” Abhishek declared during the session.

Immediately after the live session ended and Abhishek stood up, Mauris allegedly fired five shots, as captured in the video.

In response to the incident, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA and leader Aaditya Thackeray criticized the law and order situation. “There seems to be a reign of lawlessness in the state. First the shooting in Kalyan, now in Mumbai,” Aaditya remarked.

Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who oversees the home portfolio, stating, “There’s a culture of criminals ruling Maharashtra. The chief minister and his associates regularly meet with thugs and bring them into their fold. The home minister is absent, and the state is under the control of criminals. Consequently, there’s no respect for the law, and the police are left serving specific factions.”

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Vilas Potnis informed The Indian Express that Mauris and Abhishek had a history of conflict. “Although they had reconciled recently, Mauris invited Abhishek to a sari distribution event at his office in the IC Colony area. During the event, Mauris took Abhishek into his office cabin and shot him over an unresolved issue. He used his revolver to fire the shots and then proceeded to take his own life,” Potnis alleged.

Sources mentioned that while Abhishek was a former corporator, Mauris also harbored political aspirations and was frequently seen with political figures.

Mauris was reportedly involved in multiple criminal cases. Police suspect that Mauris had meticulously planned the incident and invited Abhishek to his office with the intention of killing him. Previously, Abhishek had lodged a police complaint against Mauris regarding a dispute.

Following the incident, a large number of Shiv Sena UBT workers assembled outside Karuna Hospital, prompting the police to deploy additional forces to ensure law and order.
