During an event commemorating 25 years of the John Matthew Matthan directed film Sarfarosh, Aamir Khan disclosed that Sarfarosh 2 is currently in development.
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan attended a special screening of his 1999 film Sarfarosh in Mumbai. During the event celebrating 25 years of the John Matthew Matthan directorial, Aamir announced that Sarfarosh 2 is in development.
Speaking about Sarfarosh 2, the actor stated, “I can commit to one thing: We will definitely make a serious effort to come up with the right script for it. So John, you will have to get to work here.”
He further added, “Sarfarosh 2 should be made, even I feel that.”
In addition to Aamir Khan and John Matthew Matthan, the special screening was attended by Sonali Bendre, Naseeruddin Shah, Akhilendra Mishra, Govind Namdev, Lalit Pandit, Mukesh Rishi, Makarand Deshpande, Rajesh Joshi, Smita Jaykar, Manoj Joshi, Upasna Singh, Akash Khurana, and several other notable personalities.
In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Sarfarosh director John Matthew Matthan expressed his desire to make a comeback and hopes that Sarfarosh 2 will be his next project. Matthan stated, “Aamir is keen. I am also planning to make it, but unless you have the freedom and the choice to do it, and if it’s not enjoyable for you, how will others enjoy your film? Also, there are not many scripts that I have liked. When I made Sarfarosh, I set a standard that the film should be as enjoyable for rickshaw drivers as it is for college professors. So, I am yet to find something like that to make a film again. However, today, the standard has changed. Rickshaw drivers can’t afford movie tickets anymore, so it’s important that college professors and students appreciate and enjoy the movies. That’s something I am working towards. It’s actually a very good moment to make good films—ones that are intelligent and appealing.”
“We need to find the perfect story. Aamir is very enthusiastic about Sarfarosh 2. However, unless I have a story that suits him, I can’t proceed. It’s not easy; it’s quite challenging because his character, ACP Ajay Singh Rathore, would be at the level of Director General of Police, and at that level, they don’t usually go out into the field. So, I need to consult with the police and find a way for him to step out of his office and engage in action. I need to understand how much creative liberty I can take with his role. But when I do make it, Aamir will definitely be a part of it. He is very eager,” he added.
