At least 16 people have died in various rain-related incidents in Telangana, with the State government estimating the damage at ₹5,000 crore. The IMD has forecast ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain in isolated areas of Chhota Udepur, Narmada, and Surat districts until September 4. The incessant rains and subsequent floods in Andhra Pradesh, especially in Vijayawada, are the “biggest disaster” the State has faced, according to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. More than 3 million commuters rely on suburban local train services daily in Mumbai and the neighboring areas of Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. Heavy rains have hit Mumbai and its surrounding areas in the last 24 hours, leading to widespread waterlogging and disrupting suburban train services. Some areas in the city recorded over 300 mm of rainfall within six hours, from 1 am to 7 am on Monday.
