Sunil Grover expresses that returning feels like a ‘homecoming,’ finding joy in collaborating with Kapil Sharma and his team once again.
Sunil Grover has candidly talked about his previous tiff with Kapil Sharma, jokingly suggesting that it was all a “publicity stunt” they cooked up way before Netflix even entered the Indian market. Reunited after a seven-year hiatus for The Great Indian Kapil Show, the duo addressed their past spat during a press conference ahead of the show’s premiere.
Sunil humorously recounted how they brainstormed the idea while sitting on a flight upon hearing about Netflix’s upcoming launch in India. “We were on a flight and heard about Netflix coming to India. So, we thought, why not create some buzz?” Sunil quipped, shedding light on the tongue-in-cheek nature of their previous feud.
He even playfully suggested that Netflix India had approached them for suggestions on how to grab attention in the Indian market.
Kapil chimed in, mentioning Sunil’s busy schedule with multiple projects at the time, making it challenging for them to patch things up earlier. Sunil, however, expressed his delight at reuniting with Kapil and their team, likening it to a warm “homecoming.”
It’s been teased that Sunil will be reprising his role as Gutthi, as seen in the trailers. In the premiere episode, he’ll playfully interact with Ranbir Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor.

Sunil Grover gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of beloved fictional characters Gutthi and Dr. Mashoor Gulati on The Kapil Sharma Show. However, he stunned fans when he parted ways with the show after a significant rift with Kapil Sharma. The conflict between the two comedians came to a head in October 2017 during a flight back to Mumbai after completing a show in Australia. Numerous media outlets reported that Kapil, allegedly intoxicated, was involved in a confrontation with Sunil, leading to Sunil’s departure from The Kapil Sharma Show.
