A 16-year-old boy, allegedly influenced by an online game, died by suicide after jumping from the 14th floor of a residential building in Pimpri Chinchwad city near Pune. The city police discovered a “log out” message in the minor’s notebook.

According to Pune police and the boy’s parents, initial investigations revealed that the Class 10 student had become increasingly addicted to online games over the past few months, isolating himself and spending more hours on his laptop.

“We found a purported suicide note in his notebook mentioning ‘log out.’ He also wrote ‘XD,’ which could indicate the online game he was playing. We are investigating the exact trigger behind the suicide,” Swapna Gore, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I), told news agency PTI.

The boy jumped from the 14th floor of the residential building around midnight on Thursday.

The deceased’s father works for a Nigerian firm, while his mother, an engineer, is a homemaker.

Pune police have confiscated the minor’s laptop and handed it over to cyber experts to crack the password.

Police reported that, in addition to the “log out” message, the boy’s notebook also contains three maps of his own house, notes in a coding language, and a list of players. One of the maps detailed instructions on how to commit ‘suicide,’ according to Gore.

Authorities are investigating when these maps were created to determine if they were made recently or prior to the incident.

A case of accidental death has been registered.

The minor’s father mentioned that his son had been concealing many of his belongings for several months and had even deleted all the search history from his laptop.

Police stated that cyber experts are assisting with the investigation since the parents did not know the passwords to his devices.
