Rhea Chakraborty reveals poignant details about her incarceration: ‘One contemplates the deplorable bathroom conditions…’

Rhea Chakraborty talks about her experience in jail. In 2020, she was arrested in relation to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was involved in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, recently talked about her time in jail. She was arrested in connection to his death and spent almost a month behind bars. Rhea shared the challenges she faced, from managing food to living on a limited allowance. She expressed gratitude for the tough experience.

In a chat with Chetan Bhagat on his show, Deeptalk With Chetan Bhagat, Rhea said, “Because of COVID rules, I had to stay alone for 14 days. I was the only one in the room. They asked if I wanted lunch. I was so hungry and tired that I ate whatever they gave me.” She mentioned the menu was roti and capsicum, which was simply capsicum in water.

The actress mentioned that she discovered her source of positivity in her fellow inmates. “I felt thankful when I saw that many prisoners lack family support or funds for bail. At least, I have my family and friends. I told myself, ‘You will get justice. You will get bail. You haven’t done anything wrong. I have so much to learn from these women while I am here. Why waste time sulking about what I can’t control?’” she expressed.

Discussing the restroom facilities in jails, the ‘Chehre’ actress shared that it’s “one of the toughest aspects of being in jail.” She acknowledged that it wasn’t the best, but added, “The mental stress is much harder, and physical challenges start seeming less significant in comparison. You think, ‘I can manage a not-so-clean bathroom.’”

She disclosed that the prison had a canteen, and inmates were allowed to receive money orders from their homes. Rhea received a money order of Rs. 5,000 each month. She mentioned that the jail still adhered to the system established by the British in terms of meals and bedtime.

“You receive breakfast at 6 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m., and dinner at 2 p.m. following the British way of doing things. The gates open at 6 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. During this time, you can shower, visit the library, and so on. Many people save their dinner to have it around 7-8 p.m. However, I changed my entire routine. I wouldn’t eat this food anyway. If it’s hot, I might consider it. I won’t eat it if it’s cold. So, I started waking up at 4 a.m. and having dinner at 2 p.m.,” she revealed.

In September 2020, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The actor was discovered dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020. The two were in a relationship at the time of his death, leading to Rhea’s 28-day imprisonment before being granted bail.
