The row over Amit Shah’s remark on Ambedkar intensifies, with both BJP and Opposition protesting outside Parliament.
Both Houses adjourned till 2 p.m. shortly after convening. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla adjourned proceedings following protests, while in the Rajya Sabha, business continued until papers were laid on the table. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar declined to entertain adjournment notices and, amid persistent sloganeering, adjourned proceedings till 2 p.m.
The Opposition was expected to stage major protests in both Houses. Congress MP Manickam Tagore had submitted an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha, demanding an urgent discussion on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks and calling for his apology and resignation.
On Wednesday, December 19, 2024, both Houses were adjourned as Opposition MPs raised slogans against Home Minister Amit Shah over his alleged derogatory remarks about B.R. Ambedkar. In the Rajya Sabha, the Trinamool Congress filed a privilege motion against the Home Minister. No business was conducted in either House.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to meet party MPs in the main committee room of the Parliament Annexe. The party also plans to stage a protest outside Parliament over the Ambedkar remark row.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also announced protests against Congress and the Opposition over their demand for Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation regarding his remarks.
