A tragic incident took place on Tuesday in Mumbra when a four-year-old girl lost her life after a pet Labrador fell on her from the fifth-floor terrace of a building. The event, captured by CCTV cameras, has left it uncertain whether the dog jumped or was thrown. Although the girl’s mother has not filed a complaint, police are investigating the actions of the dog’s owner.
The incident occurred near Chirag Mansion on Dargah Road. Sana Khan, a young girl, was walking with her mother around 4:30 PM to exchange a packet of diapers when a dog fell from a terrace above. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sana was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police have carried out a thorough panchnama and arranged for a post-mortem examination. Sana’s maternal uncle, Asif Rangrez, expressed his sorrow, stating that the dog fell from the B-Wing terrace, fatally injuring his niece. He also alleged that the dog’s owner keeps several canines on the terrace without proper permissions.
Rangrez stated, “The incident happened due to the dog’s owner’s negligence. The police should take appropriate action.” He added that Sana was the only daughter of a caterer who had endured years of struggle to have her.
The dog, which suffered a few fractures, has been sent to a rescue facility in Karnala. Senior Inspector Anil Shinde of the Mumbra police stated that they are investigating whether the owner had the required pet license from the civic body.
Veterinarian Kshama Shirodkar from the Thane Municipal Corporation stated that they will investigate the allegations. “We will also check for any instances of animal cruelty by the pet owner,” Shirodkar added.
The police are checking whether the dog’s owner had the proper licenses and permissions. Although the mother has not suspected foul play, the investigation continues to ensure compliance with regulations and to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
