Today, Manohar Joshi, a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a prominent figure in the Shiv Sena, passed away at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 86.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and prominent Shiv Sena leader, Manohar Joshi, passed away today at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 86. He had been admitted to Hinduja Hospital on February 21 following a cardiac attack and was under intensive care. Joshi’s funeral procession is scheduled to commence after 2 pm, and he will be cremated at Dadar crematorium with state honors.
Manohar Joshi held the position of Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999 as part of the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition. He later served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2004. Joshi, a seasoned Shiv Sena leader, initially pursued a career in education before venturing into politics in 1967. Although he has been less active in recent years, Joshi played a significant role in politics. He was a close associate of Balasaheb Thackeray and began his political journey by winning a seat as a councillor in the Maharashtra Legislative Council under the Shiv Sena’s banner. Additionally, Joshi held the position of Mayor of Mumbai from 1976 to 1977.
