Live Updates: INDIA Bloc Surpasses 200 Seats, NDA Crosses Halfway Mark with 276 Seats in Early Trends
As counting begins across 542 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the INDIA bloc’s lead exceeds 200 seats, surpassing all exit poll predictions. The NDA has secured over the halfway mark with 276 seats in early trends.
All eyes are on whether the exit poll projections will materialize and if Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure a historic third consecutive term in power.
With the counting of votes commencing at 8 am, attention is focused on whether the NDA will maintain its lead. A party or coalition needs to secure at least 272 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats to govern at the center. Votes for 542 seats will be counted today, with one seat, Surat, already decided in the NDA’s favor unopposed.
If the NDA emerges victorious under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he will become the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to win three consecutive terms.
The exit polls largely predicted a landslide victory for the PM Modi-led NDA, with most indicating over 350 seats. However, three significant exit polls—India Today-My Axis India, India TV-CNX, and News24-Todays Chanakya—forecasted over 400 seats for the ruling coalition in the general elections.
While the BJP expressed confidence in comfortably surpassing the majority mark and even prepared for celebratory events, the Opposition’s INDIA bloc dismissed the exit polls’ credibility.
In the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, pollsters had forecasted approximately 285 seats for the NDA. However, the NDA secured a whopping 353 seats, with the BJP alone winning 303 seats. The Opposition’s UPA managed only 93 seats, with the Congress securing 52 of those seats.
In the Lok Sabha Elections 2014, the NDA was projected to win around 257-340 seats. Surpassing expectations, the NDA won a total of 336 seats, leading to Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister for the first time.
