Two people lost their lives when several coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand on the morning of July 30. The accident occurred around 3:45 a.m. Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) and staff, along with Additional Divisional Railway Managers from Chakradharpur Railway Station, arrived on-site to manage the situation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government on Tuesday for the series of train accidents, questioning whether there will ever be an end to the Centre’s negligence.

In a social media post, Ms. Banerjee expressed her concern over the frequent train accidents, questioning the state of governance.

“Another disastrous rail accident! The Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in the Chakradharpur division in Jharkhand early this morning, resulting in multiple deaths and numerous injuries,” she posted on X.

“I seriously ask: is this governance? This series of nightmares almost every week, this unending procession of deaths and injuries on railway tracks: for how long shall we tolerate this? Will there be no end to the callousness of the Government of India?” she added.

The CPRO of South Eastern Railway confirmed that the accident occurred at 3:43 a.m. on July 30.

The incident resulted in two fatalities, one person with a severe bone fracture, and four others with minor injuries. Approximately 80% of the passengers were transported to Chakradharpur station by bus. Additionally, a rescue train has arrived at the site to assist in clearing the remaining passengers.
