As North India, including Delhi NCR, continues to grapple with a relentless cold wave, numerous regions are experiencing record-low temperatures, causing disruptions in train schedules due to adverse weather conditions. On Monday, Delhi recorded its coldest day of the month, with the minimum temperature dropping to 5.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average. This temperature was nearly identical to that of Nainital in Uttarakhand, where the mercury reached 5.4 degrees Celsius, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Earlier, on December 15, 2023, Delhi witnessed its lowest minimum temperature of the season at 4.9 degrees Celsius, registering four notches below the season’s average. According to an IMD official, Delhi is likely to experience cold day to severe cold day conditions in some parts on Tuesday, gradually easing thereafter.
Monday saw Delhi recording a maximum temperature of 17.5 degrees Celsius, just below the season’s average. The humidity levels fluctuated between 84 per cent and 100 per cent. Looking ahead, the weather forecast for Tuesday indicates a generally cloudy sky with a possibility of light rain or drizzle. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 15 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The air quality in Delhi remains a concern, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 345, categorizing it as ‘very poor’ as of 4 pm. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions amid the challenging weather conditions and poor air quality.
