At the premiere of her movie Ulajh on Thursday, Janhvi Kapoor had the support of a mother-figure: the veteran actor Rekha.

At the premiere of Janhvi Kapoor’s new film, Ulajh, in Mumbai on Thursday evening, Rekha stepped into the late superstar Sridevi’s shoes. Janhvi had invited Rekha to the screening, and the veteran actor’s heartfelt gesture on the red carpet is touching fans’ hearts.

Rekha’s sweet gesture at the screening was captured in a video showing her touching and kissing a large banner of Janhvi Kapoor’s film poster, as if bestowing her blessings on Janhvi and her new movie. Fans noted the close connection between Rekha and the late Sridevi, with one remarking, “Sri and Rekha were very close.” Another added, “She is like an old granny of Bollywood stars.” A fan also commented, “Sridevi and Rekha shared a deep bond. Rekha believed that after Vyjayanthimala and Hema Malini, Sridevi was the third Tamil superstar in Hindi cinema.”

Another fan noted Rekha’s longstanding maternal nature, recalling an interview where, despite being only in her 30s, she lovingly brushed her dog’s coat. The fan added that Rekha has practically raised her younger siblings, taking on that role from a young age. For the premiere, Rekha donned a peach-colored tissue silk saree and adorned her hair with flowers in her signature style.
