“What can I express about Rashid bhai? Words seem insufficient. Our paths crossed for the first time at Khanqah-e-Niaziya in Bareilly Sharif, where I share an affiliation with the Silsila-e-niaziya – a Sufi order founded by Shah Niaz Ahmad, much like many other artists.
My fortune unfolded when the eminent tabla maestro from Kolkata, Ustad Sabir Khan Sahab, invited me to perform with Rashid bhai at Sunny Tower in Kolkata in 1997. The dates, April 23 and 24, 1997, mark the inception of my musical journey with Rashid bhai.
This honor continued until September 3, 2023. For the past 26 years, I have had the privilege of accompanying Ustad Rashid Khan sahab’s vocals in numerous concerts.
Rashid bhai consistently treated me with love and respect, akin to a younger brother. In essence, I have always felt like a member of his family. The love and respect for Rashid bhai will forever reside in my heart.
Individuals like Rashid bhai, distinguished artists, and extraordinary human beings with unparalleled personalities, are exceedingly rare. Allah blessed him not only with spiritual and musical beauty but also a tranquil heart and a joyful countenance. I always witnessed his readiness to assist others.
The departure of Rashid Bhai has not only left sorrow in Hindustan but has cast a pall over artists worldwide. His absence is irreplaceable.
“For a thousand years, the daffodil weeps for an eye to behold it, Only once in an epoch is born a person who sees its beauty.”
I pray that Allah grants him the highest abode in heaven and bestows strength upon his family during this challenging time.”
